Veteran actress Neetu Kapoor recently opened up about one of the most emotional phases of her life after the demise of her husband, legendary actor Rishi Kapoor. The couple were married for 40 years and had two children- Riddhima Kapoor and Ranbir Kapoor. On April 30, 2020, Rishi Kapoor passed away after battling leukaemia (blood cancer) for two years.  What happened when Neetu Kapoor consulted a therapist after Rishi Kapoor’s death? Recently, Neetu Kapoor appeared on Soha Ali Khan’s podcast and recalled the mental and emotional challenges she encountered after her husband’s death. She shared that her loved ones suggested therapy for healing, but she couldn’t connect with the idea. She said, “You always need to talk. I don’t believe in therapists, but I believe in friends. You should have 4-5 friends you can talk it out with.” She added that she tried having a conversation with a therapist at one point, but questioned herself during the process. “I was really down. I spoke to the therapist, and I said, ‘Kya kar rhi hoon mai?'” Neetu recalled. Neetu Kapoor revealed that professional help can only work when the person decides to help themselves. “It’s nonsense. Unless you are not strong, you have to decide,” adding that the same happens to any addiction, including smoking or drinking.

How did Rishi Kapoor’s death affect Neetu Kapoor every night?

Neetu Kapoor then shared how she struggled to sleep after Rishi Kapoor’s death. She said, “When he passed away, for a month, I could not sleep. Or maybe 2-3 months, I could not sleep. And I got into drinking. I started drinking, and then, I could not sleep without drinking.” The Kaala Patthar actress further revealed how the doctor would visit her home daily to give her an injection and wait until she fell asleep. “It went on for 10 days. On the 11th-12th day, I said, ‘Doc, I am good now. I don’t think I need this. I can move on,” she said.

What happened after Neetu Kapoor decided to return to work?

Neetu Kapoor recalled how Karan Johar encouraged her to act while she was copying up. “When I used to go to my room, I just could not sleep. Karan said, ‘Neetu Ji, you have to do a film,” she remembered. She eventually made a comeback to acting with Jugjugg Jeeyo, but admitted that it was quite difficult. “I was a nervous wreck when I did Jugjugg Jeeyo. Before every shot, I would shiver. I have done 70-80 movies, but I did not have the strength. But I did that, and it helped me,” she said. Neetu also addressed the criticism she faced for working again after her husband’s demise, “Oh! he just passed away, and she jumped into acting,” she said, recalling how people judged her at that time. “But they don’t know why I did it,” she added.
