Matt Reeves teases icy Gotham in ‘The Batman Part II’ test shots
Matt Reeves has given fans a fresh glimpse into the world of The Batman Part IIteasing an icy version of Gotham City through new behind-the-scenes test shots shared on social media.
The filmmaker, who returns to direct the sequel starring Robert Pattinson, posted images of the Batmobile racing through snow-covered streets, hinting at a darker winter setting for the highly anticipated follow-up.
“#SnowTires,” Reeves wrote on X alongside photos taken from his video village monitor, featuring the Batmobile driving through heavy snow with a bat emoji attached to the post.
The director later shared another image showing an explosion through a vehicle windshield, captioning it: “Just over here having a little fun…”
The posts quickly sparked excitement among fans, many of whom have been waiting for updates since the original film’s 2022 release.
Reeves also fuelled speculation by reposting artwork from Tom King’s 2018 Batman comic arc, Beast of Burdenwhich centres on a tragic storyline involving Dick Grayson.
The sequel has faced multiple delays over the past two years. However, James Gunn confirmed last July that the screenplay had finally been completed.
Production is expected to begin this spring at Warner Bros. Studios Leavesden in Liverpool ahead of the film’s scheduled theatrical release on October 1, 2027.
The new images suggest Reeves is once again leaning into a gritty, atmospheric Gotham, with winter now a key part of the sequel’s visual identity.
