Hello, I am a young man like many others who works from 10 am to 7 pm every day. Firstly, Happy Mother’s Day to every mother in the world. I am dedicating this article to my mom, who lives in a small town in Shivamogga district.

There are many things I can say about my mom, but I’ll start from my childhood. I was born on 26th May 1998. When my mom held me for the first time, there was a smile on her face after nine months of pain. Things were going well, but after two years, I got a skin infection because of my dry skin. I used to cry for hours, and my mom would apply cream while I cried. Due to the lack of doctors in my village , my mom used to bring me to Mangaluru for treatment every two weeks. I used to sleep peacefully in her arms, but she would stay awake all night. Even though she was sleepy, for her, it was important that her son slept peacefully.

After some years, my mom admitted me to one of top schools, Pragathi Composite School. I was not a top student, and my marks were always low. My dad used to hit me with a belt, and my mom would always save me. Sometimes, she also got hit by the belt while protecting me. My mom always fought for me against my dad.

After getting decent marks till 9th standard, it was time for me to clear 10th standard. Somehow, I passed SSLC, and my mom was happy that her son got good marks and didn’t fail. After that, I passed 1st PUC, but in 2nd PUC, I failed the exam. My mom was angry and sad because I didn’t study properly. I used to go out and play with friends, while those same friends passed with great marks.

She asked me what I wanted to do next, and I said I wanted to do a diploma. My mom admitted me to a polytechnic college to study E&E. But during the first year, I only went there to enjoy. At that time, I didn’t know anything about life. I used to go to cyber cafés instead of attending classes. I wasted nearly Rs 5,000 of my mother’s hard-earned money. She thought her son was studying, but he was actually playing games.

During that period, I fought with my mom and dad to buy me a phone worth Rs 16,000. My mom sacrificed her own needs and bought me an Asus Zenfone mobile, while she herself continued using a keypad phone.

Somehow, my mom came to know from others that I was bunking classes and going to cyber cafés. My mom and dad came to me and said they were sending me to Mangaluru so that I could study without distractions. I was very sad that I was leaving my mom and going to another place. She didn’t show it, but she was crying from inside. Still, it had to be done for my betterment.

And honestly, that was the best decision of my life.

After coming to Namma Kudla, I not only completed my ITI degree but also became the topper of my batch. My mom was very happy when people from my village told her that she had made the right decision by sending me to Mangaluru. She showed my poster holding the certificate to everyone who once made fun of me in my village.

Whenever I visited my village, my mom and I would go shopping together, and she would proudly tell people that her son had topped in college. The people who once mocked me felt guilty, and I felt very happy seeing my mom smile.

Time passed, and I got a job in an IT company in Mangaluru. She was very happy and even had tears in her eyes when I got that job. After a few months, I left the job because it was too hectic, and my mom supported me during that time. She said, “Whatever you do, I am on your side,” and that made me very happy.

Since I was interested in graphic design, I started learning everything from scratch again to improve my Photoshop and Illustrator skills. For some time, I was jobless, but I earned a little money from the stock market and Dream11, and from that, I used to send money back home.

Then, on 14th June 2024, I got a job in the digital section of a well-reputed press company. My mom was once again proud, but this time even more because her son got a job in a reputed company. Again, she told everyone that her son worked in a big press company.

From my salary, I bought her a Titan watch. She hesitated to accept it, but she finally took it because it was from her son.

After all these years, when I look back at my journey, I feel really proud. A spoiled boy from a small village is now a graphic designer in a reputed company. In this rollercoaster journey of mine, my mom is the main reason for where I stand today. If she had not taken the decision to send me to Mangaluru, I would probably have stayed in my village, wasting my time.

Thank you, Amma. I love you so much.

Happy Mother’s Day. ❤️
