New Delhi: Lionel Messi became the fastest player in MLS history to reach 100 goal contributions after scoring a goal and providing two assists in Inter Miami’s 4-2 victory against Toronto FC. Messi now has 59 goals and 41 assists in 64 regular-season matches, breaking the previous record of 95, which was set by Toronto’s Sebastian Giovinco. Messi has netted 87 goals and 57 assists in 101 career appearances in all competitions.

Rodrigo De Paul also scored a goal and had two assists to help Inter Miami make a strong comeback from a 4-3 home defeat against Orlando City in a match it led 3-0. De Paul scored from a free kick in the 44th minute to give Inter Miami a 1-0 lead.

Messi usually takes Inter Miami’s direct free kicks, but he asked De Paul, who netted his third goal this year in his 21st appearance over two seasons. Suarez gave Miami a 2-0 lead when he finished Messi’s pass with his left foot in the 56th minute of the match. The visitors took advantage of the space created when Toronto forward Raheem Edwards remained down on the pitch.

Defender Sergio Reguilon netted his first goal in the 73rd minute of the match with an assist from Messi. De Paul then set up Messi in the 75th minute as Inter Miami took a 4-0 lead.

Emilio Aristizábal scored two goals for Toronto FC in the 82nd and 90th minutes, but his efforts were not enough as Inter Miami registered its sixth consecutive victory on the road.
