Mother's Day 2026 News: In light of the persistent crimes being committed against women across the country, the Government of India has issued several helpline numbers dedicated to women's safety. Through these channels, assistance is being provided to women on a daily basis.
Mother's Day News: In India, women are frequently advised—and strongly encouraged—to ensure they have certain specific numbers saved on their mobile phones. While India witnesses serious issues daily—ranging from domestic violence and molestation to various forms of harassment—women can, conversely, utilize these government helpline numbers to protect themselves and ensure their safety when facing such difficulties.
112 – Emergency Response Support System (ERSS)
Very few of you may be aware that 112 serves as the single, unified emergency number for the entire country. It is utilized by hundreds of thousands of people across India every day. The "Nirbhaya incident," which occurred in the national capital, Delhi, in 2012, shook the entire nation to its core. Following the Nirbhaya incident, and with a renewed focus on women's safety in India, this number was launched to empower women to save their lives in any kind of emergency situation by simply dialing it.
Women should utilize this number when returning home alone at night, or when navigating through deserted or isolated areas; assistance is dispatched to their exact location within just a few minutes.
1090 – Women Power Line (Uttar Pradesh)
Issued by the Government of Uttar Pradesh, this helpline number stands ready to assist you in cases involving molestation, threats received over the phone, or any other form of harassment. According to official information, this is a toll-free number where prompt and strict action is initiated immediately upon the filing of a complaint. However, the most commendable feature of this number is that, during its usage, the identity of the women involved is kept completely confidential; furthermore, the women are not required to visit the police station in person. The Special Wing of Uttar Pradesh stands fully at the service of women; upon receiving a complaint, all other tasks are set aside to prioritize assisting the women in need.
181 – National Women Helpline (NWH)
181 is a number that operates seamlessly across the entire country, 24 hours a day. Apart from instances of molestation, this number is utilized in situations involving any form of domestic violence, dowry harassment, or physical assault. Through this helpline, women receive information—along with appropriate referrals—within a matter of minutes.
14490 – National Commission for Women (NCW) 24×7 Helpline
Recently launched by the NCW in the month of March, this toll-free number serves to provide extensive assistance to women. Women can utilize this number without any hesitation or shame in cases involving sexual harassment, acid attacks, or any form of cruelty.
Moreover, through this helpline, women receive not only counseling and immediate assistance but also detailed information regarding various government schemes designed for their welfare. Furthermore, with this new toll-free number as well, the identity of the women seeking help is kept completely secure.
14433 – National Human Rights Commission Helpline
Very few among you may have heard about the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) Helpline. This service has been specifically established to assist women in cases involving dowry deaths and sexual exploitation. Upon receiving a complaint through this number, the Commission immediately takes cognizance of the matter and initiates the strictest possible action against the accused.
