The Common University Entrance Test (CUET UG) will be conducted till May 31, 2026, across multiple examination centers in India and selected international cities. Lakhs of students are expected to appear for the computer-based entrance examination for admission to undergraduate courses in central universities, deemed universities, state universities, and other participating institutions.

Ahead of the exam, NTA has released detailed instructions regarding:

  • Dress code
  • Allowed items
  • Religious symbols
  • Security checks
  • Reporting guidelines

The agency has also stated that the guidelines were designed while keeping both student comfort and religious sensitivities in mind.

CUET UG 2026 Will Be Conducted in CBT Mode

According to the official schedule:

  • CUET UG 2026 will begin on May 11
  • Exams will continue till May 31, 2026
  • The test will be conducted entirely in Computer-Based Test (CBT) mode

Examination centers have reportedly been established both in India and in selected overseas cities.

What Should Students Wear to the Exam Center?

NTA has advised students to wear:

  • Light-colored clothes
  • Simple and comfortable outfits

White-colored clothing has reportedly been recommended as the preferred option.

Footwear Guidelines

Candidates may wear:

  • Simple sandals
  • Slippers
  • Lightweight footwear
  • Low-heel shoes

However, students have been advised to avoid:

  • Heavy embroidered clothing
  • Thick-soled shoes
  • Fancy accessories

Officials say such items may increase the time required during security checks.

Kalava and Religious Symbols Allowed

One of the major relaxations this year is related to religious symbols and faith-based items.

NTA has clearly stated that candidates will be allowed to wear:

  • Kalava (religious thread)
  • Kada
  • Kirpan
  • Other objects of faith

This decision has reportedly been taken while respecting religious sentiments and personal beliefs.

However, candidates wearing such items are advised to:

  • Reach the examination center early
  • Cooperate fully during security screening

Additional checking procedures may be carried out for safety purposes.

NTA Also Considered Weather Conditions

Keeping the summer season and changing weather conditions in mind, NTA has also provided some flexibility regarding clothing.

If candidates feel uncomfortable due to weather conditions or temperature changes, they may wear:

  • Light woolen clothes
  • Weather-appropriate garments

However, such candidates may also undergo additional security checks at the examination center.

Items Allowed Inside the Examination Hall

NTA has allowed only limited essential items inside the exam hall.

Allowed Items

Candidates may carry:

  • A transparent water bottle
  • Admit card
  • Valid ID proof

The water bottle must be:

  • Fully transparent
  • Without printed designs
  • Without colored wrapping

Strict Ban on Electronic Gadgets

NTA has imposed a complete ban on:

  • Mobile phones
  • Smart watches
  • Bluetooth devices
  • Electronic gadgets
  • Notes or papers
  • Calculators

Officials have warned that possession of prohibited items may lead to disqualification or disciplinary action.

Why Candidates Should Reach Early

Candidates carrying religious symbols or additional clothing are being strongly advised to arrive well before reporting time.

Early reporting will help ensure:

  • Smooth frisking procedures
  • Faster entry
  • Reduced stress before the exam

Late arrivals may face entry restrictions due to security protocols.

CUET UG Plays Major Role in University Admissions

CUET UG 2026 has become one of India’s largest undergraduate entrance examinations.

The exam is now widely used for admissions into:

  • Central universities
  • State universities
  • Deemed universities

Students Advised to Read Official Instructions Carefully

Education experts are advising candidates to carefully read:

  • Admit card instructions

Ignoring dress code or prohibited-item guidelines could create unnecessary problems on exam day.

Students are also advised to:

  • Carry only essential items
  • Reach the center early
  • Avoid panic
  • Stay hydrated during travel
  • Verify exam timing and center location in advance

Heatwave Conditions Make Preparation Even More Important

Since the examination is taking place during peak summer conditions in many parts of India, students are being advised to:

  • Drink sufficient water
  • Avoid heavy meals before the exam
  • Wear comfortable clothing
  • Leave for the center early to avoid heat stress

With lakhs of candidates expected to appear for CUET UG 2026, following NTA’s official instructions carefully can help ensure a smooth and stress-free examination experience.
