The threat of attacks on ships in the Persian Gulf is growing. On Sunday, a cargo ship was attacked off the coast of Qatar, causing a fire. The UK’s maritime security agency, UKMTO, reported the incident. According to the agency, the ship was targeted by an unknown weapon or projectile.

A small fire broke out on the ship immediately after the attack, but it was later extinguished. Fortunately, no one was injured in the incident. The attack occurred approximately 43 kilometers northeast of Doha, the capital of Qatar. The ship was transiting the Persian Gulf when it was attacked.

Tension in Hormuz despite ceasefire

Even after a ceasefire between the US and Iran, tensions remain high in the region. Several ships have been attacked in the Persian Gulf over the past week. This new attack is believed to be linked to that tension. A few days ago, the US attacked two Iranian oil tankers. The US said these ships were attempting to break the American blockade of Iranian ports.

Following this, Iran’s Revolutionary Guard warned the US that if its oil tankers or merchant ships were attacked, it would launch a major attack on US military bases and enemy ships.

Indian ship caught fire

On April 8, a wooden Indian ship also caught fire near the Strait of Hormuz. Eighteen Indian crew members were on board. One Indian sailor died in the accident, while four others were burned. The remaining 17 were rescued by another passing ship. The injured Indians were treated in Dubai. However, the cause of the accident is unclear.

A few days ago, a Chinese oil tanker was also attacked. The Marshall Islands-flagged ship, JV Innovational, caught fire, and its chief engineer said it was still unclear who carried out the attack. The ship had 22 crew members, including people from China, Myanmar, and Indonesia. The crew members were terrified after the attack.
