New Delhi: Chennai Super Kings (CSK) batter Urvil Patel went berserk with the bat against the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 on Saturday, May 10. Urvil slammed a 13-ball half-century against LSG to equal Yashasvi Jaiswal’s record for the fastest fifty in the history of IPL.
The explosive right-hander came out to bat at n0.3 in CSK’s 204-run chase against LSG at the Chepauk and went all guns blazing from the word go. He got off the mark with a single against Digvesh Rathi in the 4th over of CSK’s run chase before smashing three sixes in a row against Avesh Khan in the next over. Urvil took Avesh to the cleaners, making a mockery of the LSG pacer.
He continued his onslaught against Rathi in the next over to reach 42 off just nine balls. The CSK batter smashed back-to-back sixes against the LSG spinner before getting a boundary and a six off the next two balls to get 25 runs off the over. With 42 off 9 balls, Urvil had a chance to break Jaiswal’s record for the fastest fifty in IPL history.
However, the CSK batter missed out on the chance closely as he managed to get to his half-century in 13 deliveries, equalling his record. Urvil got to his fifty off a single against Mohammed Shami in the 7th over of CSK’s run chase. The CSK batter celebrated his historic half-century in style with a special note for his father, which read “This is for you, papa”.

Urvil provides CSK momentum in 204-run chaseUrvil continued his onslaught after completing his record fifty and finished with a blistering 65-run knock off just 23 balls, which was laced with an impressive 8 sixes and two fours. Urvil provided much-needed momentum to CSK’s run chase after opener Sanju Samson’s dismissal and put his side on top with his sensational half-century.
Urvil dominated the LSG bowlers during his stay in the middle and shared an 81-run stand for the second wicket with Gaikwad to set up the platform for a successful run chase for CSK. The hosts will have to capitalise on the terrific knock from the batter to ensure they chase down the target of 204 runs and continue their winning run in the tournament with a third win on the trot.
