Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) captain Rishabh Pant said that the team had scored enough runs but due to poor fielding they had to face defeat against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) on Sunday (May 10). In the 53rd match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026, thanks to Josh Inglis’s brilliant innings of 85 runs, LSG scored 203 runs after losing 8 wickets when invited to bat first. CSK achieved this target in just 19.2 overs with the help of Urvil Patel’s stormy innings (65 runs in 23 balls).
With this defeat, LSG’s remaining playoff hopes also ended. This was the team’s eighth defeat in 11 matches. Pant said after the match, ‘It was a great match. Everything was going well. We knew that we would have to face pressure in the powerplay. Coming to Chennai, you expect this kind of cricket. He further said, ‘We thought the score was enough but the level of fielding should have been better, we dropped a lot of catches. Urvill played an incredible innings, as did Inglis for us. The team made a strong comeback after Urvil’s dismissal, showing great spirit.
LSG could not score big
LSG had made an aggressive start in the powerplay, where Josh Inglis attacked the CSK bowlers vigorously, scoring 77 runs without losing any wicket in the first five overs. Despite this the team barely crossed 200. Pant admitted that the team fell a little short of its target. He said, ‘The way we started, we wanted to score more runs. We thought 200-210 would be a good score. They started fast but we knew it would be difficult to bat after the powerplay.
What did Pant say when he gave the ball to Markram in the last over?
When asked about the bowling options in the final over, Pant said that it was a difficult decision and the team relied on experience. Shahbaz Ahmed, who bowled well in the match, had one over left but Pant handed the ball to Aiden Markram. Markram had 9 runs to defend but Shivam Dubey sealed CSK’s victory by hitting sixes on the first two balls.
