Raipur: In a gripping encounter, Tilak Varma managed to score a determined 57 runs, but it was Bhuvneshwar Kumar's exceptional bowling performance of 4 wickets for just 23 runs that enabled Royal Challengers Bengaluru to limit Mumbai Indians to a modest total of 166 runs for seven wickets in their IPL match on Sunday.

The pitch presented challenges with its cracks and inconsistent bounce, allowing Bhuvneshwar to exploit the conditions effectively. His early breakthroughs included the dismissals of Ryan Rickelton (2), Rohit Sharma (22), and Suryakumar Yadav (0), leaving MI struggling at 28 for three.

Despite the early setbacks, Varma and Naman Dhir (47) formed a resilient partnership, adding 82 runs for the fourth wicket, which proved crucial in stabilizing the innings on a challenging pitch.

Varma was fortunate to survive a dropped catch by Suyash Sharma when he was on nine, which could have significantly impacted MI's innings.

Both Varma and Dhir displayed commendable composure, rotating the strike and playing according to the merit of the ball. Dhir's innings included five fours and two sixes off 32 balls before he fell to a low cross-seam delivery.

Bhuvneshwar's early spell was pivotal, marking the sixth time he has taken three wickets in an IPL match. He struck on the last ball of the first over, dismissing Rickelton, who attempted a lofted drive but ended up giving a catch to RCB's captain, Rajat Patidar.

Rohit Sharma, after hitting a couple of sixes, fell victim to Bhuvneshwar's clever knuckleball, edging it behind to the wicketkeeper. Suryakumar Yadav's struggles continued as he was dismissed for a duck, caught by Virat Kohli off a delivery that was too quick for him.
