Somnath Temple Amrit Parv 2026: A grand celebration of Somnath Amrit Parv is being organized to commemorate the completion of 75 years of reconstruction and consecration of Somnath temple, the pride of India and the first Jyotirlinga. On this historic occasion, divine Kumbhabhishek was performed on the 90 meter high peak of the temple with the water of 11 holy pilgrimages across the country. Prime Minister Narendra Modi also participated in this special ritual. What is Kumbhabhishek?
Kumbhabhishek is considered a very sacred and special Vedic ritual of Hindu temple tradition. It is usually done during the construction, reconstruction, renovation or special religious occasions of a temple. In this, holy water is offered on the peak, flag and sanctum sanctorum of the temple along with chanting mantras. Kumbh means pot and Abhishek means bathing or anointing with holy water. In this ritual, divine energy is invoked in the pots through mantras using a special Vedic method and then the top of the temple is anointed with that water. It is believed that Kumbhabhishek is not just a worship but is considered a process of awakening the spiritual power of the temple.
How is Kumbhabhishek performed?
The process of Kumbhabhishek is completed in several stages and Vedic acharyas, priests and saints are involved in it. First of all special puja and yagya are performed. After this, water from holy rivers and pilgrimage places is placed in the pots. In these Kalash, the Gods are invoked through the power of Mantra. Then at an auspicious time, one climbs the peak of the temple and is anointed with that water. Even during Somnath Amrit Parva, this divine ritual was completed with the water of 11 holy places, which is considered very auspicious and rare.

What is Jalabhishek?
Jalabhishek is one of the most common worship rituals in Hinduism. In this, water is offered to different gods and goddesses including Lord Shiva. The tradition of offering water on Shivalinga is very popular especially on the days of Sawan, Mahashivratri and Monday.
What is Rudrabhishek?
Rudrabhishek is considered to be a very powerful Vedic ritual performed to please Lord Shiva. In this, water, milk, curd, ghee, honey, Ganga water and Belpatra are offered on Shivalinga. Along with this, Vedic mantras of Rudra are chanted. It is believed that Rudrabhishek calms the planetary defects, removes negative energy and brings happiness and prosperity in life. This puja is especially performed on Sawan, Pradosh and Mahashivratri.
What is the difference between Kumbhabhishek, Jalabhishek and Rudrabhishek?
Kumbhabhishek is primarily a ritual associated with the awakening of the divine energy of the temple and its spire, while Jalabhishek is considered a symbol of personal reverence and devotion. On the other hand, Rudrabhishek is a Vedic Shiva worship, in which special mantras and worship materials are used. The biggest difference is that Kumbhabhishek is done in big religious events and temples, whereas Jalabhishek can be done by any devotee daily.
