Recently, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has appealed to the countrymen to reduce the use of edible oil by 10 percent. The oil market in the country has been struggling with tight conditions for a long time. In such a situation, PM Modi had to appeal to the countrymen that huge foreign exchange has to be spent in importing oil. In such a situation, use less cooking oil for a year and avoid buying gold. He said that this will not only improve our health but will also help in controlling problems like obesity.
In today’s busy life, people prefer fried food, but eating too much oil increases weight, increases cholesterol and can also lead to heart diseases. Keeping this advice of Modi in mind, we can also make some small changes in our kitchen. It is absolutely possible to cook tasty and healthy food with less oil. Here we are telling you 8 easy and effective remedies, by adopting which you can significantly reduce daily oil consumption.
1. Use non-stick utensils
The first and easiest way is to use a good non-stick pan or pan. Very little oil is used while cooking in these. While baking vegetables, parantha or chapatti, sprinkling just one spoon of oil helps. Food sticks to old pans, hence more oil has to be added. By buying non-stick utensils you can save oil in the long run.
2. Steam
Steam cooking vegetables does not require oil at all. Cook vegetables like carrots, beans, broccoli, cauliflower in a steamer and sprinkle some spices and lemon on top. It tastes good and the nutrients also remain intact. Cook pulses and rice in pressure cooker with less water. However, if you are eating root vegetables, then definitely steam them like potatoes, cabbage, pumpkin, cabbage and green beans.
3. Adopt the method of roasting or grilling
Instead of frying, roast in oven or air fryer. Apply potatoes, sweet potatoes, ladyfinger or chicken in a little oil and spices and bake in the oven. Air fryer works very well even without oil. Similarly, grill tofu or paneer and eat it. Fried food tastes good but there is very little oil.
4. Use spices and onion-tomato extensively
For good taste, the need for oil reduces if you use spices properly. Fry onion, tomato, ginger-garlic, green chilli and whole spices well. Enhance the color and taste of the vegetable by adding dry spices (coriander, cumin, turmeric, garam masala). Adding a little curd or tomato puree thickens the gravy and requires less oil.
5. Use of pre-fried spices or stock
Roast some spices at home beforehand. When you want to prepare vegetables, add a little oil to it and mix the rest of the ingredients. Similarly, boil the vegetables and then add tempering. Instead of adding too much oil at once, add small amounts of oil.
6. Light tempering and limited amount of oil
Most people add more oil in tadka itself. Just heat one teaspoon oil, add cumin seeds, mustard seeds, asafoetida, curry leaves. Instead of using too much oil, use mustard oil or desi ghee in small quantities because they have a strong taste, just a pinch is enough.
7. Increase salads, raita and curd based dishes
Include salad, raita, buttermilk and curd vegetables in your daily diet. There is no need of oil in these at all. Make salad of cucumber, tomato and carrot. Make it by mixing ladyfinger, spinach or bottle gourd in curd. This keeps the stomach full and the amount of oil automatically reduces.
8. Correct cooking method and choice of utensils
- Always cook with a lid, this creates steam and cooks quickly.
- Use microwave or pressure cooker more
- Do not cook too much at one time, so as not to waste oil in reheating leftover food
- Chew your food thoroughly, eat in small quantities and you will feel less oily.
Cooking with less oil is not a difficult task. You just have to get used to it a little bit. Initially the taste may seem a little different, but in a few days you will feel that the lightness and freshness remains. Prime Minister Modi ji has rightly said that a little change can make a big contribution to the health and economy of the entire country. Start from your kitchen, keep your family healthy and make your small contribution in the service of the country.
