A major high street bank is set to close a further eight UK branches for refurbishment - four of which will reopen in July. The bank has temporarily shut three branches so far and plans to do the same with eight more of its branches in total, some of which will reopen earlier, in June.

The Co-operative Bank has announced its temporary closures on its website, explaining that they hope to give their branches a "refresh".

Their Glasgow, Preston and Lewisham branches are currently shut, set to reopen between this month and next.

On their website the bank wrote: "In 2026, we'll be giving our branches a refresh. This means some of our branches will close for a short period. You can find details of temporary closures by region."

The bank branches reopening in July include Southend, Romford, Leek and Barnsley. The Southend branch, which is usually open on weekdays between 9.30am and 2.30pm, will now be closed between 6 July and 21 July 2026.

The Romford branch is usually open every day except for Wednesdays and weekends but will now close between 22 June and 9 July 2026 for refurbishments. The Leek branch will also shut on 22 June but will reopen on 7 July 2026.

The bank's Barnsley branch won't be closing until July, shutting temporarily from 6 July until 21 July 2026.

The other Co-operative Bank branches set for refurbishment will be closing sooner but also reopening sooner. These include the Ilford, Manchester, Rochdale and Exeter branches.

While the Ilford branch will close between 25 May and 10 June 2026, the Manchester branch will shut between 8 June and 23 June 2026.

The Rochdale branch is set for refurbishments between 8 June and 24 June 2026 while Exeter branch will close this month, between 25 May, reopening on 9 June 2026.

Branches of the bank which have already been temporarily closed include the Glasgow, Preston and Lewisham branches. But these are all set to reopen promptly with the Scottish branch closing today but reopening on 3 June and Preston branch set to reopen as soon as tomorrow, on 12 May 2026. The Lewisham branch closed on 27 April but will open again next week, on 20 May 2026.

The Co-operative Bank advises customers check their ways to bankpage to find services to use while their branch is shut. The bank stated that their branch staff will also be happy to help customers plan ahead.
