Mumbai Indians lost by two wickets to Royal Challengers Bengaluru, suffering 8 defeats in 11 matches. Coach Mahela Jayawardene called the season 'not good enough', citing inconsistency in batting and bowling. A costly final over by Raj Angad Bawa allowed RCB to chase 166 off the last ball. Injuries and middle-order wickets hurt MI despite backing seniors Hardik Pandya and Suryakumar Yadav.
Raipur: Head coach Mahela Jayawardene admitted that Mumbai Indians were simply "not good enough" this season after a heartbreaking two-wicket defeat to Royal Challengers Bengaluru ended their IPL playoff hopes here.
The defeat, MI's eighth in 11 matches, also exposed the inconsistency that plagued the five-time champions throughout the campaign.
"Yeah, I mean, the season, it's disappointing," Jayawardene said after the match.
"We've had our opportunities. We were not good enough. We were not consistent enough with the ball, with the bat, and that showed the margins."
