India’s diplomatic activities have intensified before the BRICS Summit 2026. In this sequence, the possibility of Iran’s Foreign Minister Syed Abbas Araghchi visiting India is being expressed. According to reports, he may come to New Delhi to participate in the BRICS Foreign Ministers’ meeting to be held on 14 and 15 May. This year India is presiding over the BRICS group and in such a situation this meeting is considered very important at the global level.

Araghchi’s visit a sign of growing strategic relations

Araghchi’s possible visit is being considered a sign of growing strategic relations between India and Iran. Especially when Iran has recently become a part of the expanded BRICS group. In 2024, along with Iran, Egypt, Ethiopia, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates were also included in this organization, which has increased the global strength and influence of the group.

Amidst the increasing tension in West Asia, there is continuous high level contact between India and Iran. Since tensions between America and Iran increased in February, Iranian Foreign Minister and Indian Foreign Minister S. Several rounds of talks have taken place between Jaishankar. In these discussions, regional security and the current geopolitical situation were discussed in detail.

Araghchi had earlier come to India in May 2025 to participate in the India-Iran Joint Commission meeting. This was his first visit to India after becoming Foreign Minister. Now his possible second visit is being considered to further strengthen the relations between the two countries.

Russian Foreign Minister will attend the meeting

Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov will participate in this meeting from the Russian side. The Russian Foreign Ministry has confirmed that he will be present in India on 14 and 15 May. It is clear from this that this meeting of BRICS Foreign Ministers is going to become an important platform in terms of global politics.

India took over the chairmanship of BRICS from Brazil on 1 January 2026. This is the fourth time that India is leading this group. Before this, India has also hosted BRICS in 2012, 2016 and 2021.

This time India has kept the theme of its presidency as “Building for Resilience, Innovation, Collaboration and Stability”. This theme focuses on increasing cooperation among developing countries, tackling global challenges and pursuing a humanity-centric approach. Experts believe that under the leadership of India, BRICS can play a more influential role on the global stage in the future.
