Another season of Mumbai Indians has ended without a title after the defeat to Royal Challengers Bangalore. This is the worst period in the history of the team, where it has not been able to win the trophy for 6 consecutive seasons.

Mumbai: Another season ends, and Mumbai Indians are empty handed again. With the defeat against Royal Challengers Bangalore, the team captained by Suryakumar Yadav is out of the tournament. But this is not just a defeat, but this is the worst phase in the history of Mumbai Indians. This is the first time since the start of IPL in 2008 that the team has not been able to win the title for 6 consecutive seasons.

Mumbai won its last title in 2020 under the captaincy of Rohit Sharma. Then the team became champion for the fifth time by defeating Delhi Capitals in the final.

The team's performance since then has been like this: fifth in 2021, tenth in 2022 and reached the playoffs in 2023. Under Hardik's captaincy in 2024, it again finished tenth, played the playoffs in 2025 and now is out in 2026 after finishing ninth. That means 6 full seasons without playing any finals and without any trophy.

Before this, Mumbai Indians had to wait for such a long time for the title in the initial years of IPL. From 2008 to 2012, i.e. for five years, the team could not win the trophy. This drought was ended by Rohit Sharma in 2013, when he led the team to its first IPL title.
