Kolkata: Two days after the BJP formed the government in West Bengal, Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari allotted portfolios to his newly inducted council of ministers on Monday. Adhikari and five others took the oath on Saturday in the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, and other BJP and NDA leaders.
Allocation of portfoliosWhile former state BJP president and newly inducted minister Dilip Ghosh has been given the task of the Panchayat and Rural Development Department, Agnimitra Paul has been allocated the Women and Child Development, Social Welfare, and Municipal and Urban Development departments.
Similarly, former Union Minister of State for Home Affairs, Nisith Pramanik, has been given the charge of the Sports and North Bengal Development Departments, and Ashok Kirtania has been handed the Food and Supplies Department. Khudiram Tudu has been given the charge of Tribal Development.
“The rest of the departments will be looked after by Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari,” the notification issued by the government said. As per a senior BJP leader, the allocation of portfolios sowed the party’s attempt to balance organisational experience with regional as well as social representation.
BJP, state government will work in tandem: AdhikariCM Adhikari said that PM Modi’s vision of development for all was the guiding principle for the new Government in West Bengal. Speaking to reporters, he said that the state government at the party would work together for people’s welfare.
Earlier in the day, he said as per PTI, “We have lots of responsibilities. We have to work for the people.” He added, “Our guiding principle will be the ‘Sabka Sath Sabka Vikash’ vision of Prime Minister Modi.”
