Watch: Craig Overton's massive appeal fails as umpire opts for a nose scratch over "Out!"

While Jamie Overton is busy with the Indian Premier League, brother Craig Overton got absolutely fooled in the ongoing County Championship. On May 11, during the match between Somerset and Glamorgan at the Sophia Gardens, Cardiff, Craig started celebrating over a wicket, watching the umpire raise his finger, only to be fooled by the latter.

This was the 24th match of the Division One season. Somerset had set a strong lead of 125 runs earlier in the game, and Overton was leading the charge to dismantle the Glamorgan batting lineup. During a high-intensity spell, Overton was consistently beating the bat, building massive pressure on Glamorgan's tail-enders.

Overton bowled a sharp, full delivery that nipped back and rapped Ryan Hadley on the pads. The bowler went into a frantic, full-throated appeal. Confident it was "plumb," he didn't even wait for the verdict before starting his signature celebration—a half-sprint, half-roar directed toward his teammate.

Out of the corner of his eye, Overton saw the umpire’s arm begin to rise. In cricket, this usually signals the "Finger of Fate" (out).

Instead of extending his index finger, the umpire simply reached up to scratch his nose and adjust the brim of his hat. He then calmly signaled "not out." Somerset teammates like Tom Abell were even seen laughing at the premature celebration.

Glamorgan Seal Thrilling Two-Wicket Victory

Glamorgan pulled off a tense two-wicket win over Somerset at Sophia Gardens after chasing 283 in the fourth innings. Somerset posted 354 in the first innings, powered by Tom Abell’s 86 and Joshua Thomas’ 71, while Tom Norton claimed 3/75 for Glamorgan. In reply, Glamorgan were bowled out for 229 despite Ben Kellaway’s 59, giving Somerset a 125-run lead.

However, Somerset collapsed dramatically in the second innings to 157 all out. Norton starred again with 4/61, while Ryan Hadley and Timm van der Gugten took three wickets each. Chasing 283, Glamorgan slipped to 134/5 before Sean Dickson’s 76 and Hadley’s unbeaten 50 guided the recovery. Asa Tribe contributed 52 at the top. Migael Pretorius picked up 4/74 for Somerset, but Glamorgan survived 122.2 overs to seal victory and earn 19 points.
