The Chase's Anne Hegerty has spoken out on the show's one-year pause, after ITV confirmed that filming for the hit game will be halted until 2027. In April, the broadcasters were forced to issue an announcement amid concerns that ongoing budget cuts would affect The Chase, which has been airing continuously since 2009. An insider first unveiled this via The Sun, who claimed: "Everyone found out a few weeks ago, and people on set were very miffed and upset as they'll be out of pocket. It's been quite a shock and very disappointing. Many crew members feel worried and scared for the future during an uncertain time in TV.
"It's a deeply unsettling time financially for everyone involved in The Chase. Surely loyal viewers will notice too, if they're being fed repeat episodes." Now, chaser, also known as The Governess, has explained why the show fronted by Bradley Walsh has been put on hold.
In a fresh interview, Anne revealed to The Sun: "We are taking a little bit of a filming break because we've got so many shows in the can, we've got hundreds of shows in the can.
"Last year, we did two series of Beat the Chasers, which we were only supposed to do one. And it gives everyone time to do things. Bradley has things he wants to do, Jenny [Ryan] has her singing."
The 67-year-old added: "I am interested in doing some acting; there is a film director interested in me."
When asked if the pause was due to ITV budget cuts, the Chaser divulged: "Everyone is cutting because the streaming services are carrying acts.
"Everyone is trying to save money, so I wouldn't say that wasn't part of it. But it's also because we have so many shows in the can, we don't need to show repeats. We are still massively doing the ratings. We outrate everything."
In their statement, ITV said: "The Chase has just finished recording series 19, which completes its recording schedule for this year.
"ITV continue to air The Chase as usual, with a combination of new and repeat episodes across the year. With over 2.5 million viewers per show, The Chase remains one of the nation's most loved quiz shows."
In addition, they added: "There is also a new Beat the Chasers for 2026 and a brand new spin-off series: The Chase Around the World coming soon."
Anne also teased: "We go to places in Europe, if it goes well, then we will go further afield."
