David Miller produced a stunning late assault as Delhi Capitals pulled off the highest successful run chase in Dharamsala, defeating Punjab Kings by three wickets in a thrilling IPL clash at the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium on Monday.

In a game packed with dramatic twists and momentum swings, Delhi chased down a daunting 211-run target with one over to spare despite losing four wickets early in the innings. The win kept Delhi’s playoff hopes alive while Punjab Kings slumped to their fourth straight defeat.

Delhi’s chase began disastrously as KL Rahul, Abishek Porel and Sahil Parakh departed inside the powerplay, while Tristan Stubbs also failed to make an impact. At that stage, Punjab appeared firmly in command.

However, captain Axar Patel rose to the occasion with a fearless counterattack. Struggling for runs throughout the season, Axar smashed his maiden fifty of the campaign and revived Delhi’s chase with a series of clean strikes.

Earlier, Punjab Kings had posted an imposing 210/5 thanks to explosive half-centuries from Priyansh Arya and skipper Shreyas Iyer.

Priyansh set the tone from the very first ball, launching Mitchell Starc for a six and continuing his aggressive approach against Starc, Lungi Ngidi and Auqib Nabi during the powerplay. The young opener hammered 56 off just 33 deliveries, smashing six sixes and two boundaries.

He stitched together a rapid 78-run opening partnership with Prabhsimran Singh before Mukesh Kumar broke the stand by dismissing Prabhsimran for 18.

Young pacer Madhav Tiwari then enjoyed a memorable moment, claiming his maiden IPL wicket when Priyansh was caught by Sahil Parakh at deep point.

Shreyas Iyer then anchored the innings expertly, blending calm accumulation with aggressive strokeplay in his unbeaten 59 off 36 balls. Cooper Connolly added further momentum with a brisk 38 off 27 deliveries, taking on both Starc and Ngidi with confidence.

Delhi briefly pulled things back in the death overs when Starc removed Marcus Stoinis and Shashank Singh off successive deliveries. But Suryansh Shedge shifted momentum again with a fiery cameo.

Facing Starc on a hat-trick ball, Shedge smashed him straight down the ground for six before adding another maximum and two boundaries in an unbeaten 21 off just eight balls to push Punjab past the 200-run mark.

Delhi’s response looked shaky early on, but Axar Patel launched a remarkable counterattack, targeting Marco Jansen and Ben Dwarshuis with powerful sixes and boundaries square of the wicket.

Stubbs chipped in briefly before being run out following sharp work from Cooper Connolly in the field.

With the required rate climbing, David Miller turned the game on its head. The South African batter unleashed a barrage of flat sixes against Marcus Stoinis, Jansen and Dwarshuis to drag Delhi back into contention.

Miller brought up his half-century with consecutive sixes off Dwarshuis, but Punjab struck back immediately when he mistimed an attempt for a third straight maximum. Prabhsimran Singh sprinted forward to complete a crucial catch behind the stumps.

Ashutosh Sharma then added more drama with vital boundaries and towering sixes, including a sensational upper-cut over third man off Yash Thakur. Madhav Tiwari also chipped in with valuable late runs under pressure.

Punjab’s sloppy fielding and missed chances further hurt their cause, while the wet ball made bowling increasingly difficult in the second innings.

Even then, the match had one final twist left.

Needing five runs in the final over, Auqib Nabi kept his composure brilliantly. He first flicked a waist-high full toss for four before Yash Thakur overstepped, leaving Delhi needing only one run off the free hit.

Auqib sealed the dramatic win in style, hammering a low full toss straight down the ground for six to spark wild celebrations in the Delhi camp and complete one of the most memorable run chases of the IPL season.
