Tragic Wall Collapse Claims Life of Young Girl in Karnataka

Yadgir (Karnataka), May 12: A tragic incident occurred in Yadgir district of Karnataka, where an eight-year-old girl lost her life due to a wall collapse caused by heavy rainfall, as reported by local authorities on Tuesday.


The unfortunate event took place in Tumakuru village, located in Vadagera taluk, when the kitchen wall of Siddappa's residence fell after intense rain on Monday.


Deputy Commissioner of Yadgir, Harshal Bhoyar, along with Superintendent of Police Pruthwik Shankar, visited the site on Tuesday to assess the situation.


The victim has been identified as Akshata, aged 8. Reports indicate that she was playing in the hall with other children when the wall collapsed.


While Akshata died instantly, two other children who were with her sustained injuries and have been taken to the Yadgir Institute of Medical Sciences (YIMS) for medical care.


The Vadagera police have initiated an investigation into the incident, and further details are awaited.


This incident follows a series of rain-related tragedies in Karnataka. In April, severe weather in Bengaluru led to the collapse of an 8-foot compound wall near Bowring and Lady Curzon Hospital, resulting in seven fatalities, including three children.


During the heavy rains and strong winds on April 29, several individuals were injured, and rescue operations were launched to assist those trapped under the debris.


Chief Minister Siddaramaiah visited the site, ordered a thorough investigation, and announced a compensation of Rs 5 lakh for the families affected by the tragedy.


Additionally, separate incidents on April 27 resulted in two more deaths in BTM Layout and Whitefield due to electrocution and wall collapses.


On July 26, 2025, another wall collapse in Hanagallu, Somwarpet taluk, led to the death of a woman named Sushma, while her brother Akshay and three children were injured.


The deceased was originally from Afzalpur in Kalburgi and was living in a rented accommodation with her family.
