A close friend of Bonnie Tyler has issued a health update on the beloved singer, following her emergency admission to hospital.
The 74-year-old was placed into an induced coma to assist her recovery after undergoing urgent intestinal surgery, it was confirmed on 8th May.
The singer, originally from Skewen, was initially reported to be recovering at a hospital near her home in Faro, Portugal, before reports emerged that she had to be "resuscitated after going into cardiac arrest" when doctors attempted to bring her round from the coma.
The life-saving procedure followed a burst appendix, with medical staff subsequently working to manage the "serious infection" she is fighting.
Her close friend has now spoken publicly about her condition, sharing an update with Good Morning Britain presenter Amelia Beckett on Tuesday, 12th May, reports Wales Online.
Liberto, who has known Bonnie for four decades and whose daughter she is godmother to, revealed he had been checking in daily since her hospitalisation.
He said: "I could not see her because she is intensive care and we are praying to get better news.
"The doctors are positive with the situation, but so far, it's not that good."
Liberto had previously stated: "She started feeling unwell during a concert in London and went to a doctor for tests, but they didn't detect anything there.
"She decided to travel to the Algarve, where she began to feel severe abdominal pain. Two days later, she went to a private hospital, which urgently transferred her to the hospital in Faro because her appendix had burst and she needed emergency surgery."
A spokesman for the Total Eclipse of the Heart singer had previously said: "We know that you all wish her well and ask for privacy at this difficult time please.
"We will issue a further statement when we are able to."
Liberto had also said that Bonnie's husband Robert Sullivan, who transported her to the private hospital before her emergency surgery, had been spending his days at her hospital bedside, only going home to sleep at night.
He added: "He's very grateful to the doctors and nurses at the Faro hospital and believes that if Bonnie had stayed in the United Kingdom she would no longer be here."
Bonnie was due to start a 30-date tour later this month, including a gig in Cardiff in December.
Good Morning Britain airs weekdays from 6am on ITV1 and ITVX.
