DA Hike News: Amidst news regarding petrol, diesel, gold, and silver prices, good news has arrived for government employees. However, this good news is specifically for Gramin Dak Sevaks. The Department of Posts has announced an increase in the Dearness Allowance (DA) for Gramin Dak Sevaks (GDS) effective from January 1, 2026. The DA has been raised by 2 percent, bringing it to 60 percent.
According to an order issued by the Department of Posts on May 10, 2026, GDS employees will now receive 60% of their basic 'Time Related Continuity Allowance' (TRCA) as DA. This hike follows the Union Cabinet's decision to increase the DA and DR (Dearness Relief) by 2% for central government employees and pensioners to compensate for the rising cost of living.
**Increased Dearness Allowance Effective from January 1, 2026**
In an order, the Department of Posts stated that Gramin Dak Sevaks (GDS) have also become entitled to receive Dearness Allowance (DA) on their basic TRCA effective from January 1, 2026, at the same rate applicable to central government employees. Therefore, it has been decided that the Dearness Allowance (DA) granted to Gramin Dak Sevaks will be at the same rate applicable to Central Government employees—specifically, they will receive 60% effective from January 1, 2026.
This implies that arrears for the period from January to May will also be disbursed. A lump sum representing five months' worth of arrears will be credited directly into the employees' bank accounts. However, no specific details have been provided regarding the exact date on which these arrears will be credited.
**How much will the salary increase?**
The revised DA rate will result in a significant increase in the 'take-home pay' (in-hand salary) of GDS employees. For instance, a GDS employee drawing a basic salary of ₹20,000 will receive ₹12,000 as DA, thereby raising their total monthly income to ₹32,000.
Similarly, an employee with a basic salary of ₹25,000 will see their total income rise to ₹40,000. Since this allowance is calculated as a percentage, it follows that the higher the basic salary, the greater the overall increase in the total remuneration.
