Vaibhav Suryavanshi, the youngest player in IPL history, has attracted the attention of the world with his batting. At just 14-15 years of age, this batsman has destroyed the big bowlers of international cricket. Even in IPL 2026, bowlers have not been able to escape the impact of his bat. In such a situation, he has emerged as the biggest batsman for Rajasthan Royals this season. While everyone is praising his batting, a famous commentator while mentioning one of Vaibhav's weaknesses raised the question whether it is a burden for the team and whether BCCI rules are helping in hiding it.
The commentator who raised questions on this weakness of Vaibhav is former Indian cricketer Sanjay Manjrekar, who mentioned this during an interview. But this weakness is not in Vaibhav's batting, rather it is in his fielding, towards which Manjrekar has drawn attention. In fact, Manjrekar raised questions on the controversial 'Impact Player' rule of IPL in an interview with Sportstar magazine. Vaibhav Suryavanshi Gave the example of fielding.
Vaibhav's fielding burden, impact rule also the reason
Referring to Vaibhav Suryavanshi, Manjrekar asked whether people want to see only the batting of this young player or do they want to see other aspects of his game as well. He said that for this the impact player rule will have to be removed. Manjrekar said, “Along with good batting, is not good fielding also important for a cricketer?” Giving the example of former legendary Pakistani batsman Inzamam-ul-Haq, he said that everyone respected him because of his batting, but as a fielder also, another part of his game was seen.
The former Indian batsman further added, "We are not expecting to see all three aspects of a player. But as much as I think about impact players, just look at Vaibhav Suryavanshi, you want to see how he does in the field and what he does when there is pressure. If he is a tremendous batsman but there is a burden in fielding, then I would like to see (other teams) take advantage of that... Just batting and then rest, it would be so easy for you to play at the highest level." Don’t want to see it happen.”
Voices raised against Impact Player rule
Vaibhav Suryavanshi is often fielded by Rajasthan Royals only for batting and he is replaced by an impact player while fielding or he himself comes out to bat only as an impact player. Vaibhav is not the only player, but many other players are also struggling with this problem, who come out only to bat and then stay in the dugout for the rest of the match. Apart from this, it seems to be affecting all-rounders also, due to which big legends like Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma and many teams have demanded to abolish this rule.
