Eurovision Song Contest 2026 is back and fan-favourite Finland has got a "deep and sad" song lined up.
After Austria triumphed last year with JJ's performance of Wasted Love, the Eurovision Song Contest 2026 is setting up shop in Vienna at Wiener Stadhalle.
On BBC One tonight, Tuesday, May 12, 15 countries will be competing for 10 spots in this weekend's grand final, including early frontrunners Finland.
Finnish duo Linda Lampenius and Pete Parkkonen will be performing their entry, Liekinheitin, which translates as "flamethrower".
Ahead of the first semi-final this evening, Linda and Pete opened up on the heartbreaking meaning behind their potential Eurovision winner.
"The story behind this song is actually quite deep and sad", the Finnish pair shared with The Independent.
"It's about when you get involved with someone and let them fall in love with you, but when they get too close, you turn ice cold.
"The protagonist in 'Liekinheitin' can either be seen as the victim of someone's behaviour, or as a person who becomes addicted to other people, even when they know that the relationship will never evolve.
"It symbolises the passion these two people are experiencing, but it's also the desperation that could kill you."
Both Linda and Pete are already globally well known, with the former a classical violinist who has performed since she was eight years old.
She is also the main subject of the award-winning autobiography and docu-series My Untamed Life.
Meanwhile, Pete rose to fame on Finland's TV series Idols, where he came in third place in 2008.
As well as his successful singing career, Pete won Finland's Dancing With The Stars in 2014 with his professional dance partner Katri Makinen.
The first Eurovision Song Contest Semi-Final airs tonight, Tuesday, May 12, at 8pm on BBC One.
