Jason Holder has been one of the major reasons for the resurgence of Gujarat Titans in IPL 2026. The West Indies all-rounder who was purchased by GT at INR 7 crore in the mini auction was not utilized in the initial matches of the season. But, after Holder made it to the Gujarat Titans Playing XI, the franchise seems like an entirely different team.

 

GT looked like a confused and incomplete unit in the initial stages, but Holder's presence has added the missing balance, with both bat and ball to the team's performance which has resulted in their rise to third position in the IPL 2026 Points Table. The Titans are on a four-match winning run and look like the contenders of playoffs at this moment. Holder's addition is quite impactful.

Holder Adds More Strength To Gujarat Titans' Pace Attack

 

One of the main reasons for the betterment in Gujarat Titans' bowling attack, after Holder's inclusion has been his performance. GT already had quite good fast bowlers like Kagiso Rabada, Mohammed Siraj and Prasidh Krishna in their attack, but Holder added another handy pacer in their attack.

 

Holder has taken 13 wickets from 6 matches so far at a very impressive average of 10.92 and an economy rate of 6.34. He achieved a four-wicket haul in one of his games against Punjab Kings and was also declared Player of the Match and he continued this good form with a three-wicket haul against Rajasthan Royals later.

 

Holder's ability to bowl in both the power play and in the death overs has increased the flexibility of the Gujarat Titans' bowling attack and Holder's pace variations and bouncing delivery made him quite difficult to face.

Lower-Order Batting Gives GT Better Finishing Power

 

Prior to Holder's inclusion GT relied a lot on its top order batsman. The top 3 in the batting order, Shubman Gill, Sai Sudharsan and Jos Buttler were responsible for scoring most runs in every batting effort.

 

However when the top order failed in this type of situations the middle order batter struggled to get their team past the winning line or towards a fighting total. With the inclusion of Holder they are well settled in a good lower order.

 

With Rahul Tewatia Holder also possesses a great finishing combination to chasing targets at an excellent pace and provide the much needed batting depth.

Holder's experience in international cricket and franchise T20 cricket has made it possible for Gujarat Titans to remain calm under the most pressurised situations. The all-rounder contributes on many fronts and also provides many options for the captain.

 

His ability to get balance to the team at both batting and bowling points of view has been key for the team in the second half of the tournament.

 

Initially the Titans looked unsettled but Holder has played a massive role in getting the momentum back to the side, and in time for the knockouts, his performances will have a big impact in winning the championship.
