She created history by becoming the first Indian student to receive a prestigious award from a top American university, making her family, friends and fans extremely proud.

Roja lauds daughter as she creates history in US

On Mother's Day, Roja took to Instagram and shared some amazing news regarding her daughter. For the unversed, Anshu Malika Selvamani has been pursuing Computer Science at the Luddy School of Informatics, Computing, and Engineering in the United States. Her hard work and academic excellence recently earned her one of the university’s highest honours, the Herman B Wells Distinguished Senior Award from Indiana University Bloomington.



The actress wrote, "She also brought immense pride to our family and to India by receiving the Herman B Wells Distinguished Senior Award from Indiana University, becoming the first Indian student to achieve this honour. During her time at the university, she received several prestigious recognitions, including the Maureen Biggers Leadership Award for Equity and Technology, Outstanding Student Leader CEW&T 2026, the Luddy Academic Excellence Award, multiple Dean’s List honors, and recognition as a Founders Scholar, among others."

The award is presented to students who demonstrate exceptional academic performance along with strong leadership qualities. What made the achievement even more special was that Anshu Malika became the first Indian student to receive this honour from the university.

Adding another feather to her cap, she also completed her graduation with "Highest Distinction". Her success story quickly went viral on social media, with many fans and celebrities congratulating Roja and her family.

In her social media post, Roja further added that the occasion had become one of the most unforgettable moments of her life. The actress described her daughter’s graduation and academic recognition as the greatest gift and proudest moment she could receive as a mother.

For those unfamiliar with Roja’s cinema journey, she made her acting debut with the 1992 Tamil film Chembaruthi. The film was directed by her husband R. K. Selvamani, who also made his directorial debut with the same project. Their professional relationship later turned into love, and the couple got married in 2002.

Over the years, Roja acted alongside several leading stars, including Rajinikanth, and became one of the most recognised actresses in South Indian cinema. Today, her daughter’s achievement has given the family yet another reason to celebrate.
