For more than a decade, rumours surrounding a big-screen adaptation of Amish Tripathi ’s Shiva Trilogy have continued to excite fans, with several Bollywood names being linked to the ambitious project. The latest buzz suggested that Ranveer Singh has officially come on board to play Lord Shiva and acquired the rights to The Immortals of Meluha under his production banner, with plans to mount a grand film adaptation.
Speaking to Bombay Times from London, Amish clarified that no such deal has been signed yet, while also opening up about why adaptations of his mythological universe are still waiting to reach the screen. He said, “Ranveer Singh is one of India’s finest actors, no doubt, and I have huge respect for him. But the news about this deal being signed is not true at all. The rights for the Shiva Trilogy are with me, and nothing has been signed with anyone as yet.”
Over the years, talks around cinematic adaptations of his books have repeatedly made headlines, including reports of Karan Johar acquiring the rights to The Immortals of Meluha. However, none of the projects moved into production.
Reflecting on the delay, Amish believes timing may ultimately be the deciding force. “Lots of deals have happened, but nothing has been made yet. The film rights for all my books are back with me. I am sure they will be made into movies at the time when Lord Shiva and the Mother Goddess will it — not earlier, not later.”
