A clinical all-round performance powered Gujarat Titans to a crushing 82-run victory over Sunrisers Hyderabad in a one-sided IPL 2026 clash at the Narendra Modi Stadium on Tuesday.
After a shaky start with the bat, Gujarat recovered strongly thanks to a counterattacking half-century from Washington Sundar, before their pace attack dismantled Hyderabad’s batting lineup with ruthless precision.
Defending 169, Gujarat made an immediate impact as Mohammed Siraj dismissed Travis Head for a duck in the opening over. Kagiso Rabada then tore through the top order with a fiery spell, striking twice in quick succession. After being hit for a six by Abhishek Sharma, Rabada bounced back to remove him, followed by Ishan Kishan, who edged behind to Jos Buttler. Smaran Ravichandran soon followed, leaving SRH reeling at 32/4 inside the powerplay.
Jason Holder compounded Hyderabad’s misery with a superb spell that wrecked the middle order. He dismissed Heinrich Klaasen with a well-executed short-ball trap, before removing Nitish Kumar Reddy and Shivang Kumar in quick succession. His figures of 3/20 ensured SRH had no path to recovery.
Prasidh Krishna chipped in with key wickets, including Salil Arora and skipper Pat Cummins, whose late cameo came too late to make an impact. Rashid Khan wrapped up the innings, deceiving Praful Hinge with a leg-break as SRH were bowled out for just 86 in 14.5 overs.
Earlier, Gujarat’s innings was anchored by Sai Sudharsan’s composed 61 and Washington Sundar’s aggressive 50 off 33 balls. The duo stitched a crucial 60-run stand after early setbacks, lifting the total to a competitive 168/5 — which ultimately proved far beyond SRH’s reach.
Brief Scores:
Gujarat Titans 168/5 (Sai Sudharsan 61, Washington Sundar 50; Praful Hinge 2/17)
Sunrisers Hyderabad 86 all out (Pat Cummins 19; Kagiso Rabada 3/28, Jason Holder 3/20)
GT won by 82 runs.
