Prime Minister Narendra Modi has taken a big decision regarding simplicity and fuel saving campaign amid the impact on the global economy and oil prices due to the Iran war. According to the information, the Prime Minister has given instructions to reduce the size of his official convoy by 50 percent and increase the use of electric vehicles (EVs).
Sources said that the special security group handling the security of the Prime Minister (Special Protection Group-SPG) has been asked to reduce the number of vehicles included in the convoy. However, it has also been made clear that there will be no compromise in the security protocols. SPG has also started implementing these instructions.
According to the information, Prime Minister Modi has also said that the use of electric vehicles in the convoy should be increased, but there will be no permission to buy new vehicles for this. That means changes will be made within the existing resources only. Let it be known that the Prime Minister has recently appealed to the countrymen to adopt economic simplicity. He had urged people to postpone the purchase of gold for a year, avoid non-essential foreign trips and reduce the consumption of petrol and diesel.
The Prime Minister himself had reduced the size of his convoy considerably during his recent visits to Gujarat and Assam. Their convoys with fewer vehicles were seen in Vadodara and Guwahati. This change came soon after his message of simplicity given at the BJP rally held in Hyderabad.
According to sources, many ministries of the central government are also now working on measures to fuel saving. Chief Ministers of BJP ruled states have given instructions to reduce their government convoys. Union Minister CR Patil has also decided to stop the use of escort vehicles under this campaign.
Addressing the Telangana BJP rally in Hyderabad on Sunday, Prime Minister Modi had said that India may face economic challenges due to the global crisis and tension in West Asia. He appealed to people to use metro services more, adopt carpooling, promote electric vehicles and adopt work from home wherever possible.
Emphasizing the need to preserve foreign exchange reserves, the Prime Minister had said that to make the country self-reliant, the use of indigenous products will have to be increased. He also talked about reducing consumption of edible oil, reducing dependence on chemical fertilizers and promoting natural farming.
Prime Minister Modi had said that the central government is trying to save the countrymen from the impact of the West Asia crisis and in such a time, fuel savings and reduction in expenses will help in keeping the country’s economy strong.
