The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has announced that the Class 12 Supplementary Examination 2026 will be conducted on July 15, 2026. The List of Candidates (LOC) submission process through schools will begin from June 2. The examination will be held in a single day for compartment and improvement candidates.

The supplementary examination provides another opportunity to students placed in the compartment category as well as those seeking improvement in one subject. Results are expected to be announced in July.

The following categories of students are eligible to appear for the supplementary examination:

  • Students who passed Class 12 in 2026 and want to improve marks in one subject
  • Students placed in the compartment category in 2026
  • Students placed in the compartment category in 2025, for whom this will be the third and final opportunity

Students failing in more than the permitted number of subjects will be marked under Essential Repeat and will have to reappear in all subjects in the next academic session.

LOC submission process begins June 2

CBSE will begin accepting the LOC forms online through schools from June 2, 2026. After submission, no requests for addition or removal of subjects or candidates will be permitted. The board has clarified that the entire process will be conducted online only.

Syllabus for Supplementary exam

The supplementary examination will be conducted on the basis of the same syllabus followed for the main Class 12 Board Examination 2026. Compartment and improvement candidates will appear under the same examination cycle.

Overall pass percentage declines this year

CBSE recorded an overall pass percentage of 85.20% in the Class 12 examinations this year, down by 3.19 percentage points from 88.39% in 2025. The board declared the results on official platforms earlier today.

No merit list, merit certificates to continue

The board did not release a merit list for the 2026 examination, stating that the move is aimed at avoiding unhealthy competition among students. However, merit certificates will be issued to the top 0.1% scorers in each subject nationally.

Revaluation and verification process

Students dissatisfied with their marks can apply online for verification of marks, photocopies of answer sheets and re-evaluation through cbse.gov.in or cbseit.in. The process will begin in mid-May after the completion of the second board examinations.

The review process includes three stages:

  • Verification of marks
  • Obtaining photocopies of evaluated answer sheets
  • Question-wise re-evaluation
The application window is expected to remain open for 4 to 7 days. Tentative fees are ₹500 per subject for verification and photocopies, and ₹100 per question for re-evaluation. Marks may increase, decrease or remain unchanged after review.
