Christopher Nolan drops huge casting surprise for ‘The Odyssey’

Christopher Nolan gives an exciting update on his highly anticipated and star-packed film, The Odyssey.

During a new Time profile released on Tuesday, May 12, the 55-year-old British-American filmmaker announced the Academy award winner Lupita Nyong’o’s involvement in his forthcoming action project after months of speculations.

He confirmed that the 43-year-old actress has been cast in dual roles as Helen of Troy and Clytemnestra.

Matt Damon leads the film as Odysseus, the Greek king of Ithaca, whose epic mission is to return home to his wife Penelope, portrayed by Anne Hathaway, after the Trojan War.

In addition to Nyong’o, Damon and Hathaway, the ensemble cast also features Tom Holland, Robert Pattinson, Zendaya and Charlize Theron, among others.

Nolan additionally shared that rapper Travis Scott is also set to portray a bard in the film.

“I cast him because I wanted to nod towards the idea that this story has been handed down as oral poetry, which is analogous to rap,” he noted.

When is The Odyssey releasing?

The Odyssey is slated for a theatrical release on July 17, 2026.
