New Delhi. The Central Government has announced big relief for the farmers across the country. The Union Cabinet has approved the increase in the Minimum Support Price (MSP) for the Kharif marketing season of 2026-27. The objective of this decision is to provide better prices to farmers for their crops and make farming more profitable. The government believes that increasing MSP will directly benefit the income of farmers.
Increase in MSP of paddy by Rs 72
The government has increased the MSP of common paddy by Rs 72 to Rs 2,441 per quintal for the Kharif season of 2026-27. At the same time, the MSP of ‘A-grade’ paddy has been increased to Rs 2,461 per quintal. Compared to the previous season, this increase is considered a relief for the farmers, because the cost of production was continuously increasing.
Increase in MSP of 14 Kharif crops
The Union Cabinet has approved the increase in MSP of a total of 14 Kharif crops. Of these, the maximum increase has been made on sunflower seeds. Apart from this, the prices of crops like cotton, sesame and niger seed have also been increased.
MSP increase on major crops
Sunflower seeds: ₹622 per quintal increase
Cotton: ₹557 per quintal increase
Niger Seed: ₹515 per quintal increase
mole: ₹500 per quintal increase
The government says that while deciding the MSP, the recommendations of the Commission for Agricultural Costs and Prices (CACP) have been made the basis, so that farmers can get at least 50 percent more profit than the cost.
Farmers benefited by Rs 2.60 lakh crore
According to official estimates, this decision to increase MSP is likely to result in a payment of around Rs 2.60 lakh crore to farmers. The government has set a target of purchasing about 824.41 lakh metric tonnes of crops in the Kharif season. This will not only increase the income of farmers, but will also boost investment and production in the agricultural sector.
Rural economy will get strengthened
Increasing MSP will increase cash flow in rural markets and strengthen the purchasing power of farmers. Its impact can also be seen on agricultural equipment, fertilizers, seeds and rural business. Farmers cultivating paddy and other crops are expected to get its direct benefit in the coming Kharif season.
