A Netflix animated series, based on an iconic video game franchise, recently premiered its second season to a positive reception. Following its debut, it quickly managed to garner predominantly complimentary reactions from critics, resulting in an immaculate Rotten Tomatoes score.
What critics are saying about Devil May Cry Season 2 in reviews
Reviews for Devil May Cry Season 2 are largely positive, with critical praise directed towards the soundtrack, visuals, and tone. However, some critics have acknowledged the flaws in the Netflix video game show’s second outing.
Screen Rant‘s Grant Hermanns praised the animation, stressing it not only maintained the quality that defined the inaugural installment but also improved upon it. However, he highlighted some flaws in the story — deeming its pacing “far more uneven” than that of the previous season’s narrative and “had more filler” compared to it — and the soundtrack, claiming it felt like “a bit of a step-down from season 1’s needle drops.”
Meanwhile, But Why Tho?‘s LaNeysha Campbell lauded the animation, saying it “continues to exceed expectations.” She also praised the fight scenes, which she noted were “expertly choreographed,” adding that “every sword strike and punch [landed] with intent and impact.”
Moreover, she commended the soundtrack, saying it worked well with the animation, while also adding a “layer of entertainment value to the show.” Campbell continued, “The music is not just background noise for the scenes; it amplifies and shapes the soundscape for this season.” Furthermore, she highlighted Vergil’s introduction to the series, saying it did “an excellent job establishing [him] as a newcomer.”
GamesRadar+‘s David Opie shared that Devil May Cry Season 2 was more confident about Dante’s enduring “natural appeal” that has served the character well for 25 years since he first debuted on the PlayStation 2. Giving it a three and a half out of five stars, he wrote in his review, “[It] levels up with a second season that goes to hell and back with family drama that grounds each kinetic fight scene in something real.”
Devil May Cry Season 2 gets a perfect score on Rotten Tomatoes
Thanks to its largely positive reception, Devil May Cry Season 2 has scored a perfect 100% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoesbased on six reviews.
This is slightly superior to the inaugural installment, which holds a lower yet decent 96%. However, the former’s score could change once more reviews come in.
