Over a decade on from the release of the original Subnautica in early access, Subnautica 2 is entering its own early access period later this week.

Featuring a brand new planet to explore, four-player co-op and new ways to build out your underwater base, Subnautica 2 is set to be an ambitious leap up from the original.

If you're keen to start hunting down those new Leviathan's as soon as possible, you'll want to know the exact release time of the game later this week. Here's what you need to know about when Subnautica 2 enters early access in your region.

Subnautica 2 early access release time

In the UK, Subnautica 2 will become available to play in early access at 4pm BST on May 14, 2026.

Sadly for PS5 players, the game will only be available on PC and Xbox Series X|S for now. Developer Unknown Worlds Entertainment hasn't mentioned a PS5 port just yet, but it's expected to release one in the future - we just don't know when yet.

If you live in another region, here's when you can expect Subnautica 2 to unlock in your area:

  • Los Angeles - 8am PDT, May 14
  • Mexico City - 9am CST, May 14
  • New York - 11am EDT, May 14
  • Sao Paulo - 12pm BRT, May 14
  • Paris - 5pm CEST, May 14
  • Dubai - 7pm GST, May 14
  • Beijing - 11pm CST, May 14
  • Seoul - 12am KST, May 15
What is Subnautica 2?

Subnautica 2 is a marine-based survival game set on an alien planet. Players are tasked with exploring various underwater biomes to discover new wildlife and scavenge resources, all in the name of research and building out your base.

As you build new equipment, you'll be able to dive deeper into the vast ocean, uncovering more and more secrets that the world has to offer.

Depending on your stomach for the ocean, Subnautica 2 can also be seen as a bit of a horror game. Those who suffer from thalassophobia and megalophobia have been known to struggle with the first game, and the sequel doesn't look to be any different.

Huge creatures known as Leviathan's are lurking in the deep, and while you'll want to discover them for your own curiosity, they can also prove incredibly deadly if you get too close.

Will you be jumping into Subnautica 2 when it launches later this week in early access?
