An expert has urged people to keep an eye out for two coins worth more than £900 combined. Due to minting errors found on these pieces, they are highly sought after by collectors.

Certain coins can become collectors' items if they're considered unusual or especially rare. This can be due to how many were minted or their age.

In other cases, this can be due to an error when the coins are made, resulting in a unique design.

This is true of two coins highlighted by an expert in a recent social media post.

Speaking on TikTok, the expert known as the Coin Collecting Wizard, explained how to spot them. He said: "Do you recognise these coins? Check this out."

Firstly, he encouraged people to be wary of 20p coins struck on bronze rather than the standard cupro-nickel. Known examples of this error were minted in 1987 and 1990.

They are estimated to be worth around £750. He continued: "One mistake collectors want to get their hands on is this normally silver 20p coin in bronze.

"This happened after being struck onto the metal normally struck for a 1p coin that had slipped into the wrong batch. This error has been confirmed by the Royal Mint as an extremely sought-after minting error.

"These are super rare and are not specific to any year." He added: "We've had a look online to see how much these error coins sell for, but it doesn't look like there are any currently available on sale.

"But experts have previously valued these coins at £750 each." Next, he explained that a specific £1 coin error could be highly valuable.

If you find the design of a new 12-sided £1 coin on an old circular £1 coin base, you could be looking at over £200.

The expert said: "This error £1 coin has had the design for the new £1 coin struck on an old £1 coin base.

"The era is believed to have happened when the familiar round £1 coin was replaced with the new 12-sided coin in 2017. One recently sold on eBay for £205 in 2018."
