Desk. Amidst rising tensions in Middle East Asia, the US has further increased economic pressure on Iran. The US State Department has announced a reward of up to $15 million, or approximately 143 crore Indian rupees, for information about the financial network of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC). According to the US, the IRGC is promoting terrorism and instability in the region through illegal oil business and secret financial network.
US State Department spokesman Tommy Pigott said in a statement that the Trump administration is increasing pressure on Iran under the “Economic Fury” sanctions policy. He further said that it is attempting to weaken the IRGC’s financial strength by targeting its illegal oil network.
The US has also imposed new sanctions on the IRGC’s alleged oil trading network and on individuals and companies involved in transporting Iranian oil abroad. Three senior officials associated with the IRGC’s Shahid Purjafari Oil Headquarters have also been targeted. US officials claim these individuals were operating oil- financial transactions.
According to the US, these actions are aimed at disrupting funding channels allegedly used for proxy organizations and military activities. The statement said that the Iranian public is suffering from economic hardship, while the Iranian government is spending resources on militia networks.
The US, offering hefty rewards, is now seeking information from those who can expose the IRGC’s cash-for-oil network, sanctions-evasion strategies, shell companies, and financial transaction systems.
