Residents across Delhi and the wider NCR region witnessed cloudy skies, light rainfall, and gusty winds on Wednesday as the India Meteorological Department issued an orange alert for thunderstorms, lightning, rain, and hailstorm activity in several parts of the capital.
The Delhi weather update quickly became a major talking point as changing weather conditions brought temporary relief from the intense summer heat gripping the national capital over the past few days.
According to IMD forecasts, thunderstorm activity in Delhi NCR is expected to continue till late at night, with wind speeds reaching 40–50 kmph and gusting up to 60 kmph in some areas.
Delhi Rainfall Recorded in Several Areas
As per IMD weather data recorded till 5.30 pm, light rainfall was reported in parts of Delhi, although precipitation levels remained relatively low.
Safdarjung and Lodhi Road weather stations recorded trace rainfall, while Palam recorded 0.1 mm rainfall. The Ridge station recorded 0.2 mm rainfall, whereas Ayanagar did not receive measurable rain.
Despite limited rainfall, the cloudy weather and strong winds helped bring temperatures down slightly across the city.
IMD Orange Alert for Delhi NCR Explained

The weather warning covers several parts of the capital, including Central Delhi, East Delhi, North East Delhi, North West Delhi, South Delhi, South East Delhi, South West Delhi, and West Delhi.
The advisory was also forwarded to the Delhi State Disaster Management Authority, with authorities urging residents to follow safety precautions during thunderstorm activity and avoid unnecessary outdoor movement during intense weather conditions.
Delhi Temperature Drops Below Normal
The sudden change in weather also brought a slight dip in Delhi temperatures.
Safdarjung, considered Delhi’s primary weather station, recorded a maximum temperature of 39.2 degrees Celsius, slightly below normal levels for this time of year.
