After a string of zeroes, an emotional Virat Kohli jubilated on getting his first run in the IPL 2026 fixture between Royal Challengers Bengaluru and Kolkata Knight Riders in Raipur on Tuesday.

With the former RCB captain under pressure to perform, after suffering twin ducks against Lucknow Super Giants and Mumbai Indians respectively; it marked the first time Kohli was dismissed for back-to-back ducks in the tournament since the 2022 edition.

Chasing a target set by KKR, debutant Dubey bowled the last ball of his first over to Kohli and the former RCB skipper ran a single after guiding the ball towards square leg. As soon as he ran, the fans at the Shaheed Veer Narayan Singh International Stadium jumped up and started to roar loud.

It was an emotion out of Kohli; as he pumped his fist and looked like being in pure relief after the duck-on-arrival was broken.

Kohli Responds After Difficult Run

The moment has also gone viral across social media platforms, where netizens have highlighted the significance of the particular run to Kohli after a string of underperforming outings.

Kohli's failure has also seen him slide down the chart of top run-scorers this season following his ducks against LSG and MI. His first-ball duck in the last game was also the eighth golden duck of his IPL career.

Despite this recent falter, Kohli remains a key player for RCB this season, especially in te absence of Phil Salt. He would be expected to play a crucial role for the franchise to secure a top-two finish this season.

The veteran batter has a history of roaring back after tough periods in his career and his team would hope for similar turnarounds.

KKR Post Strong Total in Raipur

Earlier in the game, KKR recorded 192/4 in their allotted 20 overs thanks to good efforts from Raghuvanshi, Rinku and Green.

Angkrish Raghuvanshi scored 71 of 46 balls with seven fours and three sixes hit in his innings. Rinku Singh finished unbeaten on 49 of 29 while Cameron Green got 32.

The RCB bowlers made amends in the early overs as they took a few late wickets. Bowlers who chipped in with wickets included Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Josh Hazlewood and Rasikh Salam Dar who all finished with one.

A tough target for RCB to chase as they faced pressure on two counts; playoff prospects and Kohli's form and they needed to succeed chasing in Raipur.
