Punjab Kings look to revive their Indian Premier League campaign against Mumbai Indians on Thursday, with Assistant Bowling Coach Trevor Gonsalves stating that focus remains sharp.
The support staff and players have worked on weak areas, and the group believes a strong finish across the remaining three league matches is still achievable.
Gonsalves stressed that results have not shaken the squad's mindset. The atmosphere in the dressing room stays upbeat, with players backing existing plans rather than seeking wholesale changes. The coach described this phase as a chance for the group to respond with discipline and clarity during a crucial stage of the tournament.
Punjab Kings vs Mumbai Indians IPL confidence and leadership
Explaining the broader outlook inside the camp, Gonsalves said the team environment is steady despite setbacks. "It is exactly as what it was when we started. Nothing has changed at all in the dressing room. We are quite confident about it. Three games are a lot of games, it's not less, and we hope to do our best."
Gonsalves added that the squad has already addressed several issues during recent sessions. "Yes, there were some ups and downs. There were some places where we needed to iron it out, we've done that and we will be back," Gonsalves said, underlining that Punjab Kings still view this run of fixtures as an opportunity.
Punjab Kings vs Mumbai Indians IPL form and pressure
On handling outside noise around performances, Gonsalves pointed to the influence of head coach Ricky Ponting. "We are only concerned and worried about tomorrow's game and how we are moving forward in the cricketing part. Ricky is a thorough professional with all these parts. And he also knows who he is dealing with."
Gonsalves praised how Ponting interacts with senior players. "The top elite cricketers are also very professional and it's really great to see how he handles it. He doesn't beat upon it," Gonsalves said, noting that the group tries to shut out external pressure and focus on roles for the Mumbai Indians clash.
Punjab Kings vs Mumbai Indians IPL conditions and strategy
Attention has also turned to conditions in Dharamshala, where the ground dimensions and changing weather influence tactics. Gonsalves revealed that the staff has discussed several scenarios around the toss. The surface is behaving unpredictably, which could affect both batting plans and bowling choices against Mumbai Indians.
Assessing the pitch, Gonsalves said, "If you have seen, the wicket looks different now and will look different tomorrow. It's very difficult to assess now what is going to happen. But yes, looking at the weather conditions, looking at the ground, the size of the ground, there are some things that we have discussed today that we need to get into play…"
He underlined that conditions might favour one approach. "The wicket conditions have a lot to play. But yes, with small ground and a lot of dew, bowling first is a good option," Gonsalves noted, suggesting that the toss could carry extra importance when Punjab Kings meet Mumbai Indians on Thursday.
