Neighbours have been left bewildered after an enormous garden fence was erected directly across a living room window. Substantial wooden panels have entirely blocked the outlook from inside after being positioned just 14 inches from the property.

The residence in Bristol is presently vacant but workers were spotted undertaking construction at the dwelling this week. It is believed the fencing was put in place to safeguard and divide the house from a parking space. However, one neighbour said: "When I initially saw the fence I thought just the same as everyone else who's seen it really - I mean what were they thinking?

"It totally blocks the living room window of any light and view.

"Someone described it as daylight robbery, which did make me laugh!"

The property with the substantial fence constructed outside its living room window is located in Lockleaze, Bristol.

The neighbour added: "The house is currently empty.

"A fence was then put up in front of the window as there's a gap between the house and driveway that maybe a small child could fall down but it blocks the window.

"All it really needed was some rails and the natural light would still enter the house.

"The only reason I can think of is there is a gap between the house and parking spot that a child could fall between but surely a wire fence would stop that possibility and still let natural light through the window."

Another neighbour said: "This job was probably some computer job created, the worrying thing is the person who picked up the job sheet just did it without asking any questions or using any common sense to think that's not right."

A local worker noted that the drop would be regarded as a serious hazard, with increasing pressure on housing providers to address dangers such as falls from the wall.

Many others have taken to social media to ridicule the fence.

One wrote: "Oh my goodness that is beyond stupid!"

Another said: "This is ridiculous, surely the person who put that up must have questioned it?

"They must have some common sense!"

Another said: "I would pull that right down. It sounds like day light robbery to me!"

Speculation had been circulating that the property belongs to Bristol City Council, however the authority has confirmed it is not council-owned.
