Moushumi Chatterjee on Her Marriage: Hindi cinema’s veteran actress Moushumi Chatterjee ruled the hearts of fans for decades with her brilliant acting and innocent style. Yes, Moushumi, who started her career with the film ‘Balika Badhu’ released in 1967, became a star in a very short time. After this he worked with Rajesh Khanna, Amitabh Bachchan and many big stars. However, what surprised people the most was her marriage at a very young age. Moushumi Chatterjee married producer Jayanta Mukherjee at the age of just 15. At that time she was studying in 10th class. Now in a recent interview he has shared the entire story behind his marriage.

Marriage offers started coming after ‘Balika Badhu’

In an interview given to NDTV, Moushumi Chatterjee told that after the success of the film ‘Balika Badhu’, there was a queue of marriage offers for her. She said that at that time everyone wanted to make her their daughter-in-law. Moushumi said, “I was in 10th class at that time. After ‘Balika Badhu’, I got engaged because the music director of the film was my future father-in-law Hemant Mukherjee. Because of this, our families grew close. At that time everyone wanted to make me their daughter-in-law, everyone wanted to make me their wife.” She laughingly said that after the release of the film, there was a long queue of people waiting for relationships from morning till evening and because of this she was quite “spoiled”.

The marriage took place soon due to aunt’s last wish.

Moushumi Chatterjee told that her marriage happened suddenly and very quickly because her elder aunt was in the last stage of cancer. She was very attached to her and her last wish was to see Moushumi’s marriage. The actress said emotionally, “My elder aunt lived in Bhawanipur. When we came to know that she had cancer and was in the last stage, she held my father-in-law’s hand and said, ‘Hemanta Babu, can I see his marriage?’ I was the last girl in our family. Then my father-in-law told her- ‘Yes, you will be able to see.’ And then within a month I got married.”

The actress used to play with dolls even after marriage

Recalling the days after her marriage, Moushumi Chatterjee said that she was so young in age that even after coming to Mumbai, she used to play with dolls. She said, “When I came to Bombay, I bought my own dollhouse and also got a small dog. A friend of mine also lived with me because she had also missed a year in her studies. My father-in-law wanted me not to feel lonely. I used to play with my dollhouse all day.” He also told that his father was very protective of him and stood by him like both his parents even in Mumbai.

Moushumi Chatterjee’s film career was brilliant

Moushumi Chatterjee played many memorable characters in Hindi and Bengali films. His acting ability and natural screen presence gave him a distinct identity. His famous films include Anurag, Roti Kapda Aur Makaan, Angoor, Manzil. The new generation audience also saw her in Piku, where she played the role of Deepika Padukone’s aunt. Amitabh Bachchan and Irrfan Khan were also in important roles in this film. Recently, the actress was also seen in the 2025 Bengali film Aari.
