Badlapur Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Cup: The Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Cup state level volleyball tournament started late on Wednesday evening in Badlapur city amidst the beats of drums. The players’ rally that started from the main road was welcomed by the city residents at every place. The procession, which started from Badlapur Gymkhana, reached Jhenda Chowk via Sai Chowk, Ganpati Chowk and ended at the competition venue in an atmosphere full of sports spirit. The participants felt that the Hendrepada area was filled with sports spirit due to the one and a half kilometer long procession.

The tournament, jointly organized by the Directorate of Sports and Youth Services, Maharashtra Volleyball Association and Kulgaon-Badlapur Municipal Council, started with much fanfare. The tournament, organized at the Badlapur Gymkhana ground in Hendrepara, west of the city, was formally inaugurated by local BJP MLA Kisan Kathore by breaking a coconut on the ground.

On this occasion, Thane District Magistrate Dr. Shri Krishna Panchal, NAP President Ruchita Rajendra Ghorpade, NAP Chief Officer Maruti Gaikwad, Deputy Divisional Officer Vijayanand Sharma, Ambernath Tehsildar Amit Puri, NAP Vice President Priyanka Ashish Damle, Rajendra Ghorpade, organizing committee chief Kiran Bhoir, District Sports Officer Suvarna Bartke, Maharashtra Volleyball Association Secretary Nilesh Jagtap and members of Thane District Volleyball Association were present. Chief guest MLA Kisan Kathore said in his address that to encourage Olympic sports, Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Chashak state level volleyball competition is going to be historic. He further said that an indoor stadium will be built in the city. Amravati, Mumbai, Nagpur, Nashik, Chhatrapati SambhajinagarA meeting of coaches and managers was held in the presence of participants from , Latur and Kolhapur divisions. The meeting was chaired by Navnath Fartade, Deputy Director, Directorate of Sports and Youth Services, Mumbai Division and was attended by Councilor Kiran Bhoir, Maharashtra Volleyball Association Secretary Nilesh Jagtap, District Sports Officer Suvarna Bartke and other dignitaries.

384 players from 8 divisions will participate

Kiran Bhoir said that the best volleyball talent of the state will be seen in this competition. With the special efforts of MLA Kisan Kathore, this prestigious state level competition was organized for the first time in the region falling under Ambernath tehsil. Badlapur area Has been organized in. And thus local players, sports lovers and youth are getting an opportunity to watch state level competition for the first time. 384 players from 8 divisions of the state will participate in this competition to be held from 13 to 17 May 2026.
