Abhishek Nayar, the head coach of Kolkata Knight Riders, has shared insights into the significant behind-the-scenes efforts that aided Rinku Singh in regaining his form during IPL 2026. He emphasized that the franchise prioritized both confidence restoration and technical adjustments during the batter's challenging phase.

In a recent match against Royal Challengers Bengaluru in Raipur, Rinku showcased his resurgence by scoring an unbeaten 49 runs off 29 balls, contributing to KKR's total of 192/4 alongside Angkrish Raghuvanshi, who scored a fluent 71 not out. Despite KKR's loss by six wickets, following a century from Virat Kohli, Rinku's consistent performance was a notable highlight.

The Revival Strategy: Practice and Adjustments

Nayar explained that KKR implemented practice scenarios that closely resembled match conditions to help key players regain their rhythm. He noted, "When we were struggling, we focused on center-wicket practice to rebuild confidence. This approach was applied to both Varun Chakravarthy and Rinku, who are crucial players for us but had a rough start to the tournament."

He also mentioned a subtle adjustment made to Rinku's trigger movement, which he had not previously utilized. "His initial movement has changed; he now walks across compared to before. We identified this change as potentially beneficial, and it has indeed helped him," Nayar added.

Rebuilding Confidence

Nayar highlighted that KKR's focus extended beyond technical improvements to include rebuilding players' confidence after a tough start. He stated, "Access to practice grounds and spending time in the heat helped Rinku regain his belief in his ability to clear boundaries and hit fours and sixes. A lot of groundwork was involved in this process."

Creating a Supportive Environment

The emotional toll on players during prolonged poor performance can often be overlooked, especially in a high-pressure tournament like the IPL. Nayar remarked, "From the outside, it's hard to understand what a player experiences. It's challenging for them to bounce back after a poor game, especially with the influx of messages from friends and family."

He emphasized the importance of fostering a safe environment where players feel free to perform without the fear of judgment. Nayar noted, "Consistency in selection and maintaining a positive dressing-room culture has been vital to our recent improvements after a tough start."

Playoff Aspirations and Future Matches

Despite the recent loss, KKR's revival has kept their playoff hopes alive, having won four of their last five matches. However, they currently sit eighth on the table with nine points from 11 games, necessitating victories in all three remaining matches to remain in contention.

Nayar defended the team's choice to stick with established players rather than making drastic changes during their losing streak. He stated, "As a former player, I understand the importance of consistency from the coaching staff, ensuring players feel they haven't let the team down."

Looking ahead, KKR will return to Eden Gardens, where Nayar hopes to welcome back injured spinner Varun Chakravarthy. "The Varun-Sunil Narine combination has been effective, and we are eager to leverage home conditions to our advantage when Varun returns," he concluded.
