The first case of Halala came to light after the implementation of UCC, FIR registered in Uttarakhand.

Haridwar: After the implementation of Uniform Civil Code (UCC) in Uttarakhand, the first case to Halala has come to light. On the complaint of a woman, a case has been registered under serious sections against her husband and several people from her in-laws at Buggawala police station in Haridwar district. This case is being considered as the first Halala case registered under UCC in the state, which has intensified the discussion about the new legal system in the state. According to the information, the victim Shaheen has accused her husband Mohammad Danish and her in-laws of mental and physical torture. The woman says that she was deprived of marital rights and was also treated inhumanely. On the basis of the complaint, the police have started investigation and a case has been registered against the accused husband under sections 32(1)(ii) and 32(1)(iii) of the Uttarakhand Uniform Civil Code 2024 (Amendment 2026).

Under which sections the case was registered?

Action has been taken in the matter not only under UCC but also under many other laws. The police have filed charges to causing hurt and torture under Section 115(2) and Section 85 of the Indian Justice Code (BNS) 2023. Apart from this, sections to triple talaq have also been added under the Muslim Women (Protection of Rights on Marriage) Act 2019. A case has also been registered under sections of Dowry Prohibition Act 1961.

Police presented the case in court

After police investigation, Sub Inspector Manoj Kumar has prepared the charge sheet and presented it in the court of Judicial Magistrate II, Roorkee. In this case, along with the main accused Danish, names of his other family members Mohammad Arshad, Parvez, Javed and Gulshana have also been included.

1400 registrations are happening every day

Let us tell you, it has been about one and a half years since UCC was implemented in the state and during this period, this is the first case to Halala or polygamy. The government says that the purpose of the Uniform Civil Code is to provide equality, security and respect to women. According to officials, after the implementation of UCC, marriage registrations have also increased and now on an average 1400 registrations are being done every day.
