In a gesture aimed at promoting fuel conservation and national interest, Gujarat Governor Acharya Devvrat has set an example by opting for public transport over expensive air travel. Responding to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s call for “economic self-protection,” the Governor recently travelled from Ahmedabad to Kurukshetra by train.
Passengers Surprised by Governor’s Simplicity
Acharya Devvrat, along with Lady Governor Darshana Devi, arrived at Sabarmati Railway Station ahead of schedule. Fellow passengers were surprised to see the state’s highest constitutional authority travelling like an ordinary citizen, without any pomp or special arrangements. His convoy was minimal, comprising only three vehicles for security, reflecting his simple approach.
Commitment to Public Transport
Following the Prime Minister’s appeals to strengthen economic resilience, the Governor announced that he would avoid air travel within the state until the global fuel situation stabilises. Instead, he pledged to rely on trains and state transport buses for official travel, reinforcing the message of responsible fuel use.
Review of Station Development Work
Before departing, the Governor also inspected ongoing modernisation work and passenger facilities at Sabarmati Railway Station. He reviewed the progress with railway officials and interacted warmly with passengers, showcasing a hands-on and approachable administrative style.
Message of ‘Nation First’ and Simplicity
The Governor’s decision goes beyond fuel savings, delivering a broader message of “Nation First” and a frugal lifestyle. His choice to travel among the public despite holding a high constitutional office is expected to inspire both leaders and citizens to reduce unnecessary expenditure and contribute towards environmental conservation.
