Red Fort blast case: NIA files 7,500-page chargesheet against 10 accused

11 people died in this blast that took place on November 10 last year.

New Delhi. NIA has filed a 7,500-page chargesheet against 10 accused in the car bomb blast case in Red Fort area. The blast, which rocked the national capital on November 10 last year, had killed 11 people, injured many and caused massive damage to property.

According to the statement issued by the NIA, all the 10 accused, including the key accused Dr Umar Un Nabi (deceased), were associated with Ansar Ghazwat-ul-Hind, an affiliate of Al-Qaeda in the Indian Subcontinent (AQIS). The charge sheet was filed in the special NIA court located at Patiala House Court here.

The Home Ministry had declared AQIS and all its affiliated organizations as terrorist organizations in June 2018. An official statement said that the NIA exposed a major jihadi conspiracy through scientific and forensic investigation. Investigation found that the accused, including some radicalized medical professionals, were inspired by the ideology of AQIS/Ansar Ghazwat-ul-Hind and were involved in carrying out the deadly attack.

Chargesheet Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, 1967; Indian Judicial Code, 2023; Explosive Substances Act, 1908; Arms Act, 1959; And has been filed under relevant sections of the Prevention of Damage to Public Property Act, 1984.

The statement said that a proposal has been made to drop the charges against Pulwama resident Dr. Omar Un Nabi, who was killed in the suicide attack. He was a former assistant professor in the Department of Medicine at Al-Falah University, Faridabad, Haryana.

According to the NIA, apart from Dr. Nabi, the names of Aamir Rashid Mir, Jasir Bilal Wani, Dr. Muzammil Shakeel, Dr. Adil Ahmed Rather, Dr. Shaheen Saeed, Mufti Irfan Ahmed Wage, Soyab, Dr. Bilal Naseer Malla and Yasir Ahmed Dar are included in the charge sheet.
