IPL 2026, Jasprit Bumrah New MI Captain: In IPL 2026, Mumbai Indians have to play their 12th match against the Punjab Kings team. The Mumbai team has made a surprising change for this match. Star fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah has been made the stand-in captain of Mumbai Indians for this match. Jasprit Bumrah has been a part of this team since 2013, but this is the first time that he is captaining Mumbai Indians. He got this opportunity in the absence of team captain Hardik Pandya and stand-in captain Suryakumar Yadav.
Bumrah becomes the new captain of Mumbai Indians
Hardik Pandya is suffering from back pain, due to which he has not been a part of the team for the last few matches nor has he reached Dharamshala. Suryakumar Yadav is also not with the team due to personal reasons. He was the captain of Mumbai Indians in the last 2 matches. Due to which the team management has had to choose a new captain. Jasprit Bumrah has captained the Indian team, he has led India against Ireland in T20 International and against England-Australia in Test. But he has no experience of captaincy in IPL.
Jasprit Bumrah is the 10th player to captain Mumbai Indians. The names of Harbhajan Singh, Shaun Pollock, Dwayne Bravo, Ricky Ponting, Kieron Pollard, Sachin Tendulkar, Rohit Sharma, Suryakumar Yadav and Hardik Pandya are included in this list. On becoming the captain, Bumrah said at the time of the toss, 'It feels good. I came here (Mumbai Indians) at the age of 19. Before becoming MI captain, I did not think that I would become a Test captain. I like the responsibility, it is a new challenge and I will enjoy it.
