New Delhi: US President Donald Trump, who is on China tour, is in the news these days for his changed attitude. Trump, who once made sharp attacks on China, was now seen openly praising Chinese President Xi Jinping. During the event held at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing, Trump described Jinping as his “friend” and said that relations between America and China are going to be better than ever.

Trump praised Xi Jinping’s leadership

Trump praised Xi Jinping’s leadership, calling him a “great leader of a great country.” He described the grand welcome, cultural programs and military presentation received in China as “extraordinary” and “unmatched”. Trump said that he has deep respect for China and the relations between the two countries are very important for the world.

In his address, Trump also announced that President Xi Jinping will visit the White House on September 24. He said that he is eagerly waiting for this meeting. Trump highlighted the strong relationship between the American and Chinese people and said that this relationship is very important for the future of both the countries.

Why discussion in political circles?

However, this changed attitude of Trump has intensified the discussion in political circles. In fact, during the last one year, Trump has made sharp attacks on China and Xi Jinping several times. He accused China of sending narcotic chemicals like fentanyl to America. In February 2025, the Trump administration had imposed a 10 percent tariff on China, which was later increased to 20 percent.

Even during the Covid-19 pandemic, Trump targeted China and called the virus “China virus” and “Wuhan virus”. He also accused China of unfair trade, technology theft and violation of agreements. In such a situation, Trump’s open praise of Xi Jinping is surprising many people.

What do analysts think?

Analysts believe that this strategy of Trump could be a part of creating diplomatic pressure. Trump has publicly praised many global leaders in the past and has later adopted the politics of tough compromise or pressure.

In this meeting, sensitive issues like trade, Iran crisis, Hormuz Strait, purchase of agricultural products and Taiwan were also discussed. According to the White House, both leaders agreed that the Strait of Hormuz should remain open to maintain global energy supplies.

Xi Jinping said that China and America should move forward not as rivals but as partners. He warned that if the Taiwan issue is not handled properly, a situation of confrontation and conflict may arise between the two countries.
