New Delhi. Amid rising tensions and recent conflicts in West Asia, Iran has accused the US and Israel of violating international law and has appealed to the BRICS countries to openly condemn it. At the BRICS Foreign Ministers’ meeting held in New Delhi on Thursday, Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi said that the world is moving towards a new global order, in which the role of the Global South, i.e. developing countries, is continuously strengthening.
Araghchi stated that Iran considers BRICS a symbol of the emerging new world order. He said that the dream, which was once merely an ambitious idea, is now becoming a reality, but this system remains fragile. He alleged that weakening imperialist powers are trying to turn back the clock and are therefore adopting an aggressive stance. The Iranian Foreign Minister stated that Iran’s fight against Western countries is not just its own struggle, but rather a matter of protecting the interests of the BRICS countries and the entire Global South.
Araghchi said that Iranian soldiers have sacrificed their lives while fighting against ‘Western hegemony’ and US ‘arbitrariness’. Expressing gratitude for the support and solidarity of BRICS countries, he said that now all member countries should make more efforts to end America’s ‘mentality of superiority and impunity’. He said that such thinking should have no place in today’s world. Araghchi accused Western countries of supporting violence, sovereignty violations and human rights crises in Asia, Africa and Latin America.
Araghchi said that incidents that were once considered shameful are now being ignored in Western capitals. He also mentioned cases such as “horrific massacres,” violations of countries’ sovereignty, and open plunder in maritime areas. The Iranian Foreign Minister called on BRICS member countries and the international community to clearly and unconditionally condemn the “illegal aggression” carried out by the US and Israel against Iran. He said that practical steps are necessary to hold accountable those who violated the UN Charter and prevent a war-like situation.
